Happy April! This month we are focusing on "Spring Cleaning." It is a great time of year to shed the dry winter layers and prepare for spring and summer.

Spring Cleaning!
Brush Away Imperfections and Say "Hello" to Vibrant Spring Skin!

Winter can be hard on our delicate skin, and this past winter was no exception. Now, spring is here with rising temperatures and all sorts of outdoor fun, but your skin may still be stuck in winter rut. Read these five fabulous tips to slough away imperfections and spring your skin into action!

 

1) Exfoliate! This is one of the best ways to help slough off old, dry skin cells. But, not just any exfoliating cleanser will do. Many over the counter brands contain walnut shells or apricot pits that are far too harsh for delicate skin. Those cleansers can cause microscopic tears that make skin look even worse than before. Your best bet when picking an exfoliator is to use one with alpha or beta hydroxy, or come into the spa and let us pick one just for you!

2) Hydrate! One of the easiest ways to keep your skin healthy and looking flawless is from the inside out. Be sure that you are drinking enough water, especially as temperatures rise. A good rule is to divide your body weight in half and drink that many ounces of water every day. And, don't forget to take your natural supplements to ensure inside-out wellness.

3) Moisturize! Just because it is spring doesn't mean your skin won't need some added moisture. Pick a lightweight moisturizer with an SPF of at least 15 to apply under your make-up before heading out the door. It will help your skin look refreshed and protect you from the sun's harmful rays.

4) Facial! If ever there was a time to get a facial, this is it! Your skin has been through a lot this past winter, and it deserves some tender loving care from a professional. 5) Scrub! Your face isn't the only thing that needs some extra attention to get ready for spring; the rest of your body does, too! Kick Off Spring Without a Care in the World!

April is here along with one of the most dreaded days of the year: tax day! Between taxes, spring cleaning, planning for summer trips and all the regular ins and outs of life, spring can be a very stressful time of year. You are never at your best when stressed, so here a few helpful tips to bring on the relaxation and help you be your best self!

1) Take some "me time" every day. This doesn't have to be long and involved, but try to have a little time to yourself every day. It could be a cup of tea before bed time, a quick jog in the morning, or fifteen minutes to meditate on your lunch break. Whatever you choose, be sure that it is a peaceful, re-energizing time for you.

2) Get some sleep. One of the biggest stressors in our lives is lack of sleep, and once you are sleep deprived and stressed, it can be even harder to get some rest. To counteract stress related insomnia, try rubbing a few drops of your favorite essential oil on your temples before bed combined with a breathing exercise. Consciously breathe in through your nose and out through your mouth. If your mind is racing with things you need to accomplish, leave a notepad and pen by your bed where you can jot things down when they pop into your head. Writing them down will assure you that they won't be forgotten, and get them off your mind so you can have a great night of sleep.

3) Indulge. When stressed, we tend to take care of everyone and everything but ourselves and that is no good at all. Whether you come by the spa for a restful massage or mani/pedi, or you have a girl's night out with one of your best friends, finding little ways to take care of yourself will make life more manageable.

4) Get a move on. In the immortal words of Elle Woods, "Exercise creates endorphins. Endorphins make you happy!" Go for a hike or jog, pick up a yoga class, try rock climbing, or join a local sports league. Exercise doesn't have to be something you dread; find something active that you love doing and enjoy yourself!

Q. I'm really active during the spring/summer months and always find I get more breakouts this time of year.  What is the best way to keep my skin blemish free?
A. Warmer weather equals more outdoor activity options.  Some of us love to paly tennis, golf, swimming, etc. they are all sports that increase our perspiration and result in unhappy skin. To avoid this we recommend adding an oil control cleanser into your regime that has Salicylic acid in it.  This is an antibacterial ingredient that can help with unwanted breakouts.  I recommend Medicated Acne Cleanser by Image and cleansing facials during the summer months to keep the skin looking its best!
